Your Scratch Assignment
You have some choices here.
1. You can do this on your own, or you can work as a pairs.
2. Your project can be to do one of the following:

Tell a story about something which has significance to the local community, the whole school, the whole of Auckland, all of New Zealand, or the Pacific, or indeed the world.
OR
Design a game that could be used by Year 8 students to help them understand a topic from one of your Year 8 clases that you have studied this year.
You will need to explore the Scratch Tutorials in Section 2 and Section 3 to learn the techniques for organising and creating your program.
Before you begin, you must get approval from Mrs Beadle for your project. This means that you must come up with a plan for your final project before you start working on it.

Criteria for Project:
Project approved first.
1 For a Story:
a. How significant is it? very significant as it happens in schools today
b. How many characters are involved? 4 main characters then a crowd of students
c. How many "scenes" are there? 6 plus introduction
d. Is there a large range of Scratch program instructions involved? Yes there is
e. Does the story include own characters created? Yes we will create all the characters ourselves to make them just the way we want them
f. Does the story use recorded voice in a serious way? No
g. Is the telling of the story accurate? (Does it refer to any research to support the statements made?) it is talking about school bullies which we can all relate to
h. Does the final story "flow" sensibly. Yes it does in a way that would happen
i. are there any notes which help explain the story to a viewer? It is very easy to understand which anyone age group can take interest in

3. For a Game:
a. Does the game have any real purpose?
b. Are there clear instructions for a player?
c. Are there mulitple levels/scenes?
d. Are the levels appropriate - ie do they get harder?
e. Are the controls easy to use?
f. Have you made any of your own characters or backgrounds?
g. Have you used any recorded sound effects?
h. Is it challenging for the age group?



diary for scratch project

october 12th- we made our first slide in scratch and our main charate and sorted out our wikis
october 13th- i made the back rounnd for the second slide. we made nearly all our slides but the computer froze and we lost it all :(
october 16th- we made some animations and worked out what animations we are going to use for each scene.
october 21st- we made the end slide and we are just working out how to do our animations!
october 22nd- today we did alot of our animations and did one of our voice records and finished our backrounds


Evaluation

did you draw up a project plan? yes we did. we planned what our scenes and backrounds would look like and the characters. yes we mainly stuck with the plan excpet the occasional thing.

did you draw a story board? yes we did we made a word document with each secene, its name, the animations and characters.

did you stay with this plan? yes what we said in our plan we put in our actual project but we added some animations differently.

what were the difficulties you had with...

animation? well it was quite hard getting the right animations on the correct scenes and trying to find out how we used the different animations.

audio? we recorded a voice clip but when we did our project it wouldnt come up so we had a few problems with that and ended up not using it.
